The first 60 days
I can’t believe it has been exactly 60 days to the day that I started my new role. I titled this months blog ‘The First 60 Days” because this past couple months reminded me of this infamous reality show in many ways.
Things started slow, and I struggled to get through each day for a couple of reasons:
My new role encompasses everything that I’ve learned since my Project career started in 2007. We have a LOT of established processes and procedures, and there are a LOT of training and reference materials. I get to use all of my skills that I’ve learned in one position which include:
Coaching and Mentoring Project Managers
Budget Management (`25 million dollar budgets and more than 200 resources)
Leading and Planning with C Suite Executives discussing Strategic Initiatives
Because of circumstances that occurred soon after I started my last job; I’d been sitting stale the past `6 months. It took a lot for me to switch back into work mode and pay attention, focus and make sure that I continue to be that BADASS that I am!
The Commute! On a good day it takes me 45 mins each way. On a bad day it has been ~ 2 hours. My average commute time is somewhere in between 1 hour to 1/1/2 hours each way.
It went by super fast; but it was not always due to work. I had several very important, and competing social events absolutely every single weekend. I never got any downtime until this weekend and as I write this Blog. I know y’all understand why I chose both; when at one time I would definitely have chosen work over fun. Not anymore; some of the highlights for my (non local) events include:
Celebrating the birthday of my Sis Tory’s hubby Shahid. We had such a good time; with good people. I have a new girlfriend from that trip. Sooo LIT!
Visit to Denver for my High School All Class Reunion; and visit with my brother.
Langston University Homecoming weekend!
Beautiful wedding of my girlfriend and her hubby’s daughters wedding in Tulsa, OK.
This week I helped my mentor create the monthly forecast for the first time. The challenge is ensuring that you are within
0-10% in forecast accuracy. I’ll let you know where we landed next month.
I will see y’all next month! Happy Fall, Holidays, Love, Life…
